Karinne’s research focuses on the integration of science, commercialisation challenges and law, particularly biotechnology and nanotechnology in all their applications including health, agriculture and industry.

She is an Associate Professor in the Law Faculty of Monash University.  Prior to academia, Karinne worked as a lawyer specialising in advising companies undertaking scientific research and development. As an academic, she was lead author of a report commissioned by the Australian Government on preparing Australian regulatory frameworks for nanotechnology and a later report on preparing those frameworks for innovation more generally. Current projects include an international project on regulating genome editing in agricultural plants as well as ARC funded research on inheritable genetic modification of humans, including the use of mitochondrial donation.
