This session has been developed for the international delegates to showcase how Queensland schools collect, collate, utilise and implement learning improvements from the use of Big Data.


Biography: 

Stacie Hansel is the Executive Director, State Schools – Performance, Queensland Department of Education.  She is leading the implementation of the School Improvement Model across all State Schools, as well as targeted initiatives to lift outcomes for students. Her 25 year career has taken her from Gold Fields of Charters Towers to the cane fields of Bundaberg as a teacher, Deputy Principal, Head of School, Director and Principal. She has worked with school communities across Queensland in rural and remote locations, distance education, small and large primary and secondary schools. Stacie is recognised for her educational leadership across the teaching profession with an Australia Day Medal for service to State Schools. A career highlight is working with her school team to win a Queensland State Showcase Award for excellence in school improvement.

Nigel Pearn is a teacher who works in State Schools – Performance, where he supports schools to undertake inquiry in the context of the Queensland School improvement model. He has long-standing interests in educational measurement and literacy teaching. He was the President of the Primary English Teaching Association Australia from 2010-2013 and managed the department’s Reading Centre in its foundation year. He has worked extensively in standardised test construction, review and analysis for both the Queensland Studies Authority and Educational Assessments Australia (UNSW Global).
