Best Practice in Transitioning International Students into their New High School Environments

Biography

Ms Helen Robin has worked in international education since 1994.  After qualifying with a BA from UQ and a Grad Dip in Secondary Teaching from ACU, Helen furthered her qualifications by completing a Trinity College Cert in TESOL and later a Master of Education, with a focus on Applied Linguistics and Communication and Conflict Resolution Studies.  As the regulatory environment surrounding international education in Australia increased in complexity, from the late 90s and across the next decade, Helen played a pivotal role in building capacity within Catholic schools in Brisbane to successfully operate in the international education sector.  Helen has been involved with all aspects of the international education industry including the organization of cultural immersion trips in for staff, homestay management, the development and delivery of marketing materials, liaising with education agents along with language proficiency testing and support of students both in and outside the classroom.  Helen was pleased to be asked to speak on the topic of integrating international students to new high school environments as it has been a major focus of her work for the last two decades.
