Abstract

During this session we aim to explain the changes that have recently come into effect within the sterilizing industry. We discuss how the Australian Standards are guiding the work done here and also how to approach interpretation of these standards. The approach is a practical, hands on approach, using experiences and examples actually taken from the field and real life scenarios. Main areas of focus will include:

  • Tips for successful accreditation
  • Minimising risks through process
  • Various methodologies and technologies available
  • Water Treatment
  • Quality Systems Implementation

Biography

James Kyriakou B.App.Sc.(App. Chem.) M.Chem

Solutions Manager – Health infrastructure, Device Technologies Australia

Background: James has been a member of Device Technologies for 14 years in a number of key roles. His primary responsibilities have been with the infection prevention and endoscopy teams. He has also Implemented systems and new products into the CSSD and Endoscopy markets that have made a significant difference to patients’ lives and quality of life. James completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (App Chem.) at RMIT University in Melbourne. His Masters was centred on drug synthesis, with particular emphasis on Cancer research. He is also qualified in Analytical Techniques, including the investigation of new analytical techniques for oleic acid viscosity and breakdown profiles in industry applications.  Since leaving academia, James has been trained by the Australian Institute of Management in Advanced Management Techniques, Human Resource training and retention. He also holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.  Currently he is studying Lean Six Sigma methods.  He recently convened the Working Group into Water Quality for the AS/NZ 4187 standard.  In his free time, James enjoys spending time with his 3 kids, coaching AFL and travelling to unique destinations.
